After extending the time limit for clips to three minutes last month, TikTok is reportedly testing even longer formats.
According to Matt Navarra, a consultant specialising in social networks, TikTok is testing videos of up to five minutes in length. Last month, the app introduced three-minute videos. Matt Navarra shared a screenshot of an account update TikTok which indicates: " Upload videos of up to five minutes in length from your device. Make sure you are using the latest version of TikTok before trying this feature on your app or on tiktok.com. "
The world of short videos is very competitive, which is why there are frequent changes and developments. In September, Instagram extended the time limit for Reels from 15 to 30 seconds. In July, the time limit was extended to 60 seconds.
It is even possible that TikTok is considering moving beyond five-minute videos. Matt Navarra also posted a tweet which seems to show that the company is also experimenting with 10 minute videos.
Some users have reacted to this information, some of them deploring an evolution that would bring TikTok closer to YouTube by making it lose some of its specificity. There is little, TikTok has become the most downloaded application in the world, overtaking Facebook.
